The Palestinian keffiyeh has a fascinating history dating back to Sumerians and Babylonians in Mesopotamia. It is also known as a shemagh scarf, arab scarf, Palestinian hatta or yamegh. Over the years the keffiyeh has is worn in solidarity protests and demonstrations.
During the 1936 Arab Revolt, Palestinians used the keffiyeh to hide their identity to avoid prosecution. When British Mandate authorities banned the keffiyeh, all Palestinians started wearing it as a symbol of resistance, which continues through this day.
The keffiyeh is composed of 3 main parts. The solid black border represents the trade routes going through Palestine, a long and rich history of merchants, travel and cultural exchange. The olive leaves pattern represents strength, resilience & perseverance. The fishnet pattern represents Palestinians connection with the Mediterranean sea.
This heavy weight jumper has the Palestinian keffiyeh pattern in the outline of Palestine. With cuffed sleeves, it'll keep you warm during solidarity marches!
